On behalf of the MCWS Board of Directors, Imam and Trustees:
'The Muslim Community of the Western Suburbs, like the rest of our Nation, has been saddened and horrified by the recent events in Boston. Killing innocent people is not a part of the faith that we represent. We are committed to countering extremist ideology of any kind and we will continue to promote a message of peace through faith in God and through our services, sermons, programming, and activities. We encourage the community of the Western Suburbs to work with us in this mission to promote communal, familial, and individual peace. May God have mercy on all of us and may he keep us all safe from harm.'

When:Sunday, January 27, 3:30 pm
Where:MCWS/Crescent Academy Gym
If you are still weighing all the options for high school, that there is an informal meeting, this Sunday,Jan 27th, in the MCWS/Crescent Academy Gym at3:30pm.
The following schools will be represented and either a parent and/or students will give us their personal reasons for choosing a particular program, as well as their positive/negative experiences with the schools thus far:
Canton/Plymouth/Salem - PCEP
PCEP - STEM program
Washtenaw International High School or "WI HI" (IB school in Yspi)
Arbor Prep (Charter High School in Yspi)
Detroit Country Day
Greenhills
Henry ford early college
Michigan Islamic academy (MIA)
We hope to start the meeting by hearing directly from the parents/students of each school, with the remaining time left open for parents to ask questions/share their thoughts.
There is no agenda here to promote any particular school. We hope this casual setting will allow parents to hear about the different High School options available from another parent/student's perspective, and perhaps gain a better understanding about which educational environment may be best suited for their individual child.
To help the organizers set up for the program, we are asking you to RSVP to me if you are likely to attend :smzahoor@gmail.com

Emin Er has published a large number of books in Arabic, focusing on the basic disciplines within Arabic linguistics (such as morphology, syntax, and logic), as well as more advanced disciplines (such as Islamic law, especially in relation to spiritual psychology). He has stated that a major goal of his scholarship is to adapt the traditional religious sciences of Islam to present-day needs and concerns.[1]

[Back to Home Page] Serving our Elderly and Disabled - MCWS Outreach Event - Saturday, April 28: 9a - 4p What: Day of Serving our Elderly and Disabled Canton Neighbors
When: Saturday, April 28: 9a - 4p
To register, please email Nadia Husain (nadiahusain@gmail.com) by Fri. March 30.
Please volunteer to take part in spending the day giving back to the Canton Community by helping your elderly and disabled non-Muslim Canton neighbors. Canton Leisure Services has invited our muslim community again this year to participate in this community service project which entails volunteers to visit the homes of those in need and assist them in housework and home repairs. Alhumdulillah, last year, we had a large group of muslims volunteers that helped repair and rebuild 10 Canton homes...the organizers of this project are hoping to get that same type of contribution from our muslim community this year as well.
Both skilled and unskilled volunteers are needed. Skilled volunteers are needed for carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, tree trimming, etc. Unskilled volunteers are needed for yard work, painting, and general clean up.
Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age. Shuttle vans will be provided to transport volunteers to the homes being repaired. A Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Please consider taking your family (individuals 15+ yrs. old, please) to do this charitable work: what a great way to give back to the community, perform our neighborly duties, and work side by side with your fellow Americans to help the needy!

In this course, Shaykh Muhammad Amin Kholwadia reads from chapters of The Book of Aphorisms, by the renowned scholar Ibn 'Ata Illah. Ibn 'Ata' Illah's Book of Aphorisms (al-Hikam al-'Ata'iyya) is one of his most well-known works. Commentators have mentioned that the Hikam comprises four sciences: the science of admonition and reminding, purifying spiritual works and acquiring the inner virtues, and knowledge bestowed from the Divine Presence. The Hikam has received numerous commentaries; a sign that this work has been well-received by the community of scholars. More recently, Dr. Ramadan Buti has published, in five volumes, his commentary on the Book of Aphorisms that he delivered in numerous mosques in Damascus since 1974.

[Back to Home Page] Bone Marrow Registry Drive - March 19th 11a-3pm @ MCWS WHAT: BE THE MATCH! Bone Marrow Registry Drive
WHEN: Saturday March 19th, 2011 from 11AM to 3PM at MCWS (gym classrooms)
WHY: In memory of Bilal Mallick, to increase Asian and Arab samples in the registry, to save a life!
WHO: You must be 18 and above to participate in the registry (ALL IT REQUIRES IS A SIMPLE CHEEK SWAB)
DONATIONS: "Be the Match Foundation" is accepting donations to help cover the $100 cost to place each sample in the registry. Please donate whatever you can.
CONTACT: Shirin Khan at shirinkkhan@hotmail.com or Fatima Mallick at fasama1@yahoo.com
Here is a note from one of the volunteers of the Chicago bone marrow registry drives:
As we enter this weekend of multiple drives, let us remember back to our first one, last Thursday. We were so full of hope and promise that our beloved Bilal could be brought back to health, if it was Allah's will, with a bone marrow match. We did not know Allah's plan, but we believed we could work together to achieve something wonderful by His grace and mercy-and we were right. That night, 200 people pledged to save a life if required, because we asked them to. Let us ask again this weekend, and keep asking, because there are other children like Bilal, adults too, who are dearly loved by their families; without our commitment and vision for a community where we take care of each other, they may leave a hole that could never be filled, like our dearest Bilal. Allah has brought us something beautiful out of these sad days, the understanding that we have a part to play to take care of our brothers and sisters, those we have loved for a long time, and those we have not yet met.

We invite you and your children to attend this valuable lecture. A question and answer session will, in sha Allah, follow the lecture.
