Ibn 'Ata' Illah's Book of Aphorisms (al-Hikam al-'Ata'iyya) is one of his most well-known works. Commentators have mentioned that the Hikam comprises four sciences: the science of admonition and reminding, purifying spiritual works and acquiring the inner virtues, and knowledge bestowed from the Divine Presence. The Hikam has received numerous commentaries; a sign that this work has been well-received by the community of scholars. WHEN: Saturday March 19th, 2011 from 11AM to 3PM at MCWS (gym classrooms)
WHY: In memory of Bilal Mallick, to increase Asian and Arab samples in the registry, to save a life!
WHO: You must be 18 and above to participate in the registry (ALL IT REQUIRES IS A SIMPLE CHEEK SWAB)
DONATIONS: "Be the Match Foundation" is accepting donations to help cover the $100 cost to place each sample in the registry. Please donate whatever you can.
CONTACT: Shirin Khan at shirinkkhan@hotmail.com or Fatima Mallick at fasama1@yahoo.com
Here is a note from one of the volunteers of the Chicago bone marrow registry drives:
As we enter this weekend of multiple drives, let us remember back to our first one, last Thursday. We were so full of hope and promise that our beloved Bilal could be brought back to health, if it was Allah's will, with a bone marrow match. We did not know Allah's plan, but we believed we could work together to achieve something wonderful by His grace and mercy-and we were right. That night, 200 people pledged to save a life if required, because we asked them to. Let us ask again this weekend, and keep asking, because there are other children like Bilal, adults too, who are dearly loved by their families; without our commitment and vision for a community where we take care of each other, they may leave a hole that could never be filled, like our dearest Bilal. Allah has brought us something beautiful out of these sad days, the understanding that we have a part to play to take care of our brothers and sisters, those we have loved for a long time, and those we have not yet met.

Many of us have already given and this tragedy has fallen out of hte news. However, the rebuilding work has only just begun and disease and famine are spreading fast. We have to keep working to help the needy. Even if you've already given, please make an effort to attend and support our local youth group. This is a good opportunity to meet many of the youngsters in our community who we dont know as well.

Challenges Facing our Youth

Our youth have to deal with the same issues youths of other faiths and communities deal with, including music, drinking, gambling, dating, smoking marijuana, etc. IONA is pleased to have Abdul Malik Ali, an activist from California, who spent years dealing with youth, address our community on “Challenges Facing Our Youth” in sha Allah. We invite you and your children to attend this valuable lecture. A question and answer session will, in sha Allah, follow the lecture.
This lecture is for everyone.

Where: Muslim Community of Western Suburbs (MCWS)
